Takis

Takis Fuego is the rolled, extra-spicy corn snack that built its UK following almost entirely through social media rather than supermarket shelves. It's a Mexican import made by Barcel (part of Grupo Bimbo), sold here since the late 1990s in Mexico and only much more recently as a genuinely mainstream import in the UK.

Unlike a flat tortilla chip, Takis are rolled into a tight tube before frying. That does two things: it gives seasoning far more surface area to cling to, and it produces a denser, harder crunch than a flat crisp. The rolled shape also traps seasoning inside the tube rather than shedding it at the bottom of the bag, so the last handful hits just as hard as the first.
