Cheetos: What They Are, the UK Flavours, and Where to Buy

Cheetos are one of the best-known snacks in the world, and interest in them in the UK is high. This guide explains what they are, where they come from, which UK varieties retailers currently list, and how they compare with the Walkers snacks many British shoppers already know.

We do not stock Cheetos yet

Supreme Sweets does not currently list Cheetos on our store. Nothing in this article means we sell a particular Cheetos product. If you want American snacks, you can browse our American Candy & Snacks collection.

What are Cheetos?

Cheetos are a cheese-flavoured corn snack. The original Crunchy Cheetos are still made, and the range has grown to include several shapes and flavours, including Puffs.

Where do Cheetos come from?

Cheetos were invented in 1948 by Charles Elmer Doolin, the same person who created Fritos. The brand is owned by PepsiCo through its Frito-Lay subsidiary, and according to Wikipedia it is sold in more than 36 countries, with flavours adjusted for different markets. Source: Wikipedia: Cheetos.

UK varieties

A UK specialist retailer, American Candy Co, lists a range of Cheetos varieties, including:

  • Crunchy Cheese
  • Flamin' Hot Crunchy
  • Crunchy Cheddar Jalapeno
  • Puffs White Cheddar
  • Mac 'n Cheese versions
  • Flamin' Hot Popcorn

Pack sizes and availability change over time, so check the retailer's own page before buying. Source: American Candy Co: Cheetos.

How do Cheetos compare with Walkers?

Walkers is also owned by PepsiCo, and has been since 1989. Its best-known products include Cheese & Onion crisps and Wotsits, a cheese-flavoured puffed snack. Walkers tried selling Cheetos in the UK, relaunching them in 2000, but Wotsits took over the cheesy puff slot by late 2002, according to Wikipedia. Source: Wikipedia: Walkers (snack foods).

In practice, Cheetos are a puffed snack, so they are closer to Wotsits than to a thin, crisp-style snack such as Cheese & Onion. If you like Wotsits, Cheetos may be worth trying. We have not tasted them side by side, so judge for yourself.
