Away from the cup shape entirely, Reese's also makes standard chocolate bars. Fast Break Bar 51g — Case of 18 has a whipped peanut butter and nougat centre. Overload Chocolate Bar 42g — Case of 18 packs in peanut butter creme, peanut butter cup pieces and chopped peanuts. Where the Cup Actually Came From
The Reese's name belongs to H.B. Reese, who worked as a dairy farm foreman for Milton Hershey before starting his own candy company, the H.B. Reese Candy Company, in Hershey, Pennsylvania, in 1923 — using Hershey's chocolate in his own confections from the start. In 1928 he created what became the company's defining product: a cup of peanut butter coated in milk chocolate, originally sold for a cent apiece as a "Penny Cup." It became so popular that Reese eventually dropped his other candy lines to focus on it. After he died in 1956, his six sons took over the business, and in 1963 they merged the H.B. Reese Candy Company into the Hershey Chocolate Corporation in a stock-for-stock deal — which is why Reese's has been a Hershey brand ever since, despite starting as a rival's product made with that rival's own chocolate. By 1969 the Peanut Butter Cup had become Hershey's best-selling product, a position it's more or less held onto ever since.
