Bishopbriggs' population reached around 23,750 in the 2022 census, an East Dunbartonshire town that sits just north of Glasgow.
The quarries that built Glasgow
Bishopbriggs doesn't look it today, but for much of the 19th century it was one of the main sources of the pale "blonde" sandstone used across Glasgow — quarried at Huntershill and Kenmure and used in buildings including stretches of Cockburn Street, before the quarries were worked out and red sandstone brought in by rail from Dumfriesshire took over as the city's building stone of choice. The Bishopbriggs quarries themselves are long closed and built over.
The Triangle, not a sweet shop
The town's everyday shopping is centred on the Triangle Shopping Centre at Bishopbriggs Cross, anchored by a supermarket and the usual run of chemists and coffee shops — useful for a weekly shop, but we haven't found a dedicated sweet shop trading there or elsewhere in the town.
