A sweet jar reads as more of a gift than a bag of the same sweets, even though it's often exactly the same sweets inside. We stock two genuinely different ways to buy one, and which is right depends on how much effort you want to put in and who it's for.
Pre-filled: grab it and give it
Our Sweet Jars collection is pre-filled — a single flavour weighed into a jar, ready to hand over with no extra shopping required. It's mostly Bonds' traditional range: Rhubarb & Custard, Sherbet Lemons, Barley Sugar, Mint Imperials, Strawberry, Lemon and Blue Raspberry Bon Bons, and Cough Candy, plus Millions Vimto, Orange and Strawberry flavour jars. These are proper quantities — 1.7 to 2.5kg — so they suit someone you know genuinely likes that one flavour, a big family to share with, or a "grab this one thing and you're done" gift. What they don't offer is variety within the jar; each one is a single flavour throughout.
Fill-your-own: pick the jar, pick the sweets
For anything more personal, our Sweet Accessories range has empty jars in a range of shapes and sizes, meant to be filled with whatever mix of sweets suits the person you're buying for. It's more effort — you're choosing the sweets separately — but it lets you build something nobody else is giving.
Matching the jar to the occasion
A few starting points, based on the shapes and sizes we actually stock:
- Stocking filler or small thank-you — the Victorian Sweet Jar 380ml or Victorian Plastic Sweet Jar 500ml, small enough not to look like an afterthought while staying inexpensive to fill.
- Christmas — the Snowman Plastic Sweet Jar 1065ml is the one seasonal shape in the range, and doesn't need any extra wrapping to read as a Christmas gift.
- Wedding favours or party tables — the Victorian Spiral Sweet Jar 450ml and Victorian Dodecagon Sweet Jar 580ml are small and distinctive enough to look considered when you're buying several at once for a table.
- A traditional, proper sweet-shop look — the Victorian Style Sweet Jar 970ml and Victorian Plastic Sweet Jar 2.25L are the closest we stock to the classic weigh-out jar look.
- Go big — a milestone birthday, an anniversary, a big thank-you — the Large Plastic Sweet Jar 4.5L or Large Cookie Sweet Jar 3.3L hold enough that they don't need topping up any time soon.
- Everyday or practical — the Round Bottle Shaped Sweet Jar 735ml, Standard Plastic Sweet Jar 2.5L or Slimline Plastic Sweet Jar 3.8L are straightforward shapes that work as a kitchen-counter jar as much as a gift.
What to actually fill it with
Once you've picked a jar, the sweets themselves can come from wherever suits the amount you need — our Sweet Tubs guide and Bulk Bags vs Share Bags piece both cover buying loose sweets by weight or piece count, which is exactly what you need to decant into an empty jar.
Frequently asked questions
Are your sweet jars sold empty or already filled with sweets?
Both, depending on the range. Our Sweet Jars collection is pre-filled with a single flavour, ready to give. Our Sweet Accessories range is empty jars, meant to be filled with your own choice of sweets.
Which is the better gift — pre-filled or fill-your-own?
Pre-filled is simpler and needs no extra shopping. Fill-your-own takes more effort but lets you match the sweets to the person.
What's the biggest jar you sell?
Among fill-your-own jars, the Large Plastic Sweet Jar holds 4.5L. Among pre-filled jars, several Bonds and Millions lines come in jars of 2.1–2.5kg.
Can I get a small jar for a stocking filler or thank-you gift?
Yes — the Victorian Sweet Jar 380ml and Victorian Plastic Sweet Jar 500ml are our smallest fill-your-own formats.
