None of that old market survives as a building today — Gateshead's later indoor market, built in 1969 under a multi-storey car park, has itself since been demolished. The town's modern shopping anchor is Trinity Square, opened in 2013 on the same site, built around chain shops, food outlets and a large public square rather than the kind of independent stalls the medieval market would have had.
