Mini eggs are one of the defining shapes of the British Easter shelf, and it's worth being clear from the start about exactly what we stock: bulk bags of the classic speckled, sugar-shelled format, not a Cadbury-branded line, a mini-egg-flavoured bar, or the Magnum ice cream version. Here's what's genuinely available, and where the format actually came from.

Both are genuine bulk formats — a large bag of mini eggs rather than a small share pack — and neither is sold under the Cadbury name. If it's specifically Cadbury's own Mini Eggs you're after, that's not a line we currently carry.
Where the speckled shell actually comes from
Chocolate eggs at Easter are much older than the mini egg format itself. German confectioners were making chocolate-filled, egg-shaped treats as far back as the early 1700s, and Britain got its first proper chocolate egg from J.S. Fry of Bristol in 1873, with Cadbury following two years later in 1875 — early versions were hand-decorated, made from bitter dark chocolate, and often filled with sugar-coated chocolate drops called dragées.
The specific speckled, pastel-shelled mini egg most people picture today is a much later, 20th-century invention: Cadbury launched its own Mini Eggs in 1967, built around a solid milk chocolate centre coated in a crisp sugar shell speckled to resemble a real small bird's egg, in pink, purple, white and yellow. That speckled candy-shell format has since become the template the wider category is built on, including the bulk lines we stock here — even though our own range isn't the Cadbury product itself.
