Kinder Cards: What They Actually Are

The name makes Kinder Cards sound like a collectible, pack-opening novelty — something closer to Match Attax than a chocolate bar. It isn't. Here's what they actually are, and where things stand on our shelves.

What Kinder Cards actually are

Kinder Cards are a chocolate wafer biscuit, not a trading card. Each individually wrapped pack contains two thin wafer halves — one side coated in milk chocolate, the other left plain — filled with a milk or cocoa cream. The “card” in the name refers to the flat, rectangular shape of the biscuit itself, closer to a playing card than a typical Kinder bar. They're sold as single packs and as multipacks of several individually wrapped pieces.

When they launched

Ferrero introduced Kinder Cards to the UK in summer 2021, following earlier launches in Ireland, Italy, Germany and France. The UK rollout came with a reported marketing spend of over £1.8 million, including a TV campaign, as Ferrero pushed further into the biscuit and wafer snack category beyond its usual chocolate and egg formats. Reception has been mixed — some reviewers found the wafer dry and the chocolate flavour light, while Ferrero reported a positive initial response from shoppers.

Where they fit next to other Kinder products

Kinder Cards sit closer to Kinder's wafer biscuits, like Happy Hippo, than to Kinder Bueno or the toy-filled Kinder Joy and Kinder Surprise — it's a dry snack format rather than a traditional chocolate bar or egg.

Where we stand

We don't currently stock Kinder Cards. We do carry a wide range of other Kinder products — Bueno, Joy, Surprise and Happy Hippo — in our Kinder collection, and we keep an eye on which new lines are worth bringing in.
