The Brand Behind It: Storck
Merci is made by August Storck KG, a German confectionery company founded in 1903 by August Storck in Werther, Westphalia, where the business still has its roots today. The Merci brand was introduced in the 1960s, built specifically around the idea of chocolate as a way to say thank you — "merci" being the French word for exactly that. The individually wrapped, mixed-variety format was part of the concept from the start: each piece foil-wrapped so a box could be shared out one at a time rather than eaten as a single bar.
