Nerds launched in the US in 1983 under the Willy Wonka Candy Company brand (now part of Ferrara), built around a genuinely simple gimmick: tiny, crunchy, tangy sugar pieces sold in a dual-chamber box, so each box holds two separate flavours kept apart until you decide to mix them. That dual-flavour box format was unusual enough at the time that it became the brand's defining feature, more than any single flavour.
