Pokémon TCG World Championships Explained: How the Format Works

Worlds is the visible tip of a much longer competitive season most casual players never see up close.

A season, not a single event

Qualification runs on Championship Points earned across sanctioned local, regional and international tournaments throughout the year. The players who accumulate enough points across the season earn their invitation.

Standard format, current sets

The World Championships use the current Standard format, meaning only sets legal in Standard at the time of the event are usable — the same competitive pool serious tournament players are already building around all season.

Separate divisions by age

Players compete within separate age-based divisions rather than one open bracket, which keeps younger competitors matched against peers rather than facing seasoned adult players directly.
