Squashies Guide: Drumstick & Millions

"Squashies" isn't one brand's product — it's a format, a soft pillowy chew that several manufacturers have made their own version of. The two names searchers actually mean are Swizzels' Drumstick Squashies and Millions Squashies, and we stock both: two Drumstick flavours and two sizes of Millions' Japanese Sour bag.

Swizzels Drumstick Squashies — Original Raspberry & Milk, 120g (Case of 12)

The soft-chew version of the classic Drumstick lolly, in its original raspberry-and-milk flavour combination. It's sold as £1.15 price-marked bags, 12 to a case, and is currently in our regular stock range rather than a special-order line. Contains gelatine, so it isn't suitable for vegetarians or vegans. See Swizzels Drumstick Squashies Original Raspberry & Milk 120g — Case of 12.

Swizzels Squashies Cherry Cola Flavour Drumstick, 120g (Case of 12)

The same soft Drumstick-shaped chew in a separate cherry cola flavour, with no artificial colours. It's a special-order line for us, usually arriving within about two weeks at the same price as our regular range, and also contains gelatine. See Swizzels Squashies Cherry Cola Flavour Drumstick 120g — Case of 12.

Millions Squashies Japanese Sour Flavour Bag — 100g and 130g

Millions' take on the format applies its chewy, tiny-sweet texture to a Japanese sour flavour profile rather than the fruit flavours Millions is usually known for. We stock both sizes: the Millions Squashies Japanese Sour Flavour Bag 100g, in our regular stock range, and the special-order Millions Squashies Japanese Sour Flavour Bag 130g, typically around two weeks to arrive at the same price.

Two Brands, One Format

Swizzels began in 1928 when brothers Alfred and Maurice Matlow opened a small London jelly-sweet factory, later joining David Dee to found Swizzels itself; the Blitz forced a move to New Mills, Derbyshire, in 1940, where the company — renamed Swizzels Matlow in 1975 — still operates today. Drumstick Squashies launched in 2012 as a soft-chew take on Swizzels' classic Drumstick lolly and was named a Top Launch by The Grocer that year. Millions has a separate history: it was created by the family-run Golden Casket Group of Greenock, Scotland, and launched in 1990, quickly becoming a playground and pick 'n' mix staple in its own right. The two brands compete in the same soft-chew space but arrived at it from different directions — one from an existing lolly, the other as a new tiny-sweet format from the start.

Frequently asked questions

Is Squashies a brand or a type of sweet?

It's a format — a soft, pillowy chew — rather than one brand's product. Both Swizzels and Millions make their own Squashies lines, and we stock both.

What's the difference between Drumstick Squashies flavours?

We stock two: Original Raspberry & Milk, the soft-chew version of the classic Drumstick lolly flavour, and Cherry Cola, a separate flavour in the same format.

Are Drumstick Squashies vegetarian?

No. Both flavours we stock contain gelatine, so they aren't suitable for vegetarians or vegans.

When did Squashies launch?

Swizzels launched Drumstick Squashies in 2012, and it was named a Top Launch by The Grocer that year. Millions launched its own sweets in 1990, created by the Golden Casket Group in Greenock, Scotland.
