Crewe Market Hall began life as the town's "Cheese Hall" when it opened in 1854, built with space for 2,000 tonnes of cheese, followed by a corn exchange in 1857 and a tower added in 1871. The Grade II listed building has since had a £3m refurbishment and remains the town's main indoor market.
Among its current traders is Wattalotta Sweetz, which opened a small unit in the Market Hall in December 2021 before expanding into a bigger store with a new American range the following year — a genuinely recent addition to a market with 170 years of trading history behind it.
