The Market House that survived the fire of 1707
Lisburn's Market Square developed as the commercial heart of the town under Sir Fulke Conway and Sir George Rawdon, after Charles I granted the 1st Viscount Conway the right to hold a market there. A "terrible and sudden" fire tore through the town in 1707, and the Market House was the only building left standing — it's now, in modified form, the oldest surviving building in Lisburn. Bow Street, running off the square, once held 13 pubs at once and today leads to Bow Street Mall and the Georgian-fronted Lisburn Square.
