Sweets in Maidstone: Once Home to the World's Biggest Toffee Maker

Maidstone's population reached around 109,490 at the 2021 census, Kent's county town.

Once home to the world's biggest toffee maker

Maidstone has a genuine claim to confectionery history. Edward Sharp started selling his wife's homemade toffee from a grocery shop on Week Street from 1878, building it into a dedicated factory by 1898. Branded Kreemy Toffee from 1910 and produced at the purpose-built Kreemy Works from 1912, the business grew so large that by 1922 Edward Sharp & Sons claimed to be the largest toffee manufacturer in the world — at its peak producing 600 wrapped sweets a minute and running 24-hour shifts. The company was acquired by Trebor in 1961, so there's no factory to visit today, but the town's independent shops carry the confectionery tradition forward.

History is one thing, a wholesaler is another

A remarkable industrial history doesn't change what a corner sweet shop is built for — a shopper filling a bag, not a business ordering trade cases or an event needing a vegan-specific or halal-friendly range sorted in bulk.

Why that still means ordering online for volume

For anything beyond shop quantities, ordering online and having it delivered works exactly the same in Maidstone as anywhere else in the UK — no separate process or extra cost, just standard delivery.

The range covers pick 'n' mix by the bag and tub, bulk bags from 1kg to 3kg, trade cases for events and businesses, vegan and halal-friendly sweets, retro favourites, and full chocolate ranges from the major brands.
