Lark Hill Place: an 1897 street, rebuilt inside a museum
In 1955, Salford Museum and Art Gallery recreated a small Victorian street from features salvaged from real Salford and Manchester buildings that would otherwise have been demolished. The result, Lark Hill Place, is set at 1897 and includes Mr Tomlinson's General Stores, a corner shop stocked with genuine period sweets — many of them made from Terry's of York's original moulds, with labels printed from the original blocks. It's open for business, in character, every Sunday at 12:30pm.
