Sidmouth is a seaside town with around 13,000 residents (2021 census), lined with elegant Regency terraces that once welcomed a very young royal visitor.
A Regency resort with a royal visit
Sidmouth blossomed into a fashionable resort during the Regency period, and many of its elegant Georgian terraces date from 1811-1820. In December 1819, the Duke and Duchess of Kent arrived at Woolbrook Cottage with their one-year-old daughter — the future Queen Victoria — and the Duke died there the following month.
What that history doesn't leave behind
This town's history doesn't come with a dedicated sweet shop set up for bulk bags, vegan-specific ranges or halal-friendly lines — not the kind of retail a town this size tends to support locally.
Why Sidmouth shoppers order online anyway
For anything past a corner-shop bag, ordering online is more consistent — Sidmouth shoppers might otherwise find themselves travelling to Exeter or Exmouth for a wider selection.
