Tarbert sits on a narrow neck of land between West Loch Tarbert and Loch Fyne, on the Kintyre peninsula in Argyll — not to be confused with the other Tarbert, on the Isle of Harris, further north. This is the Argyll one, home to around 1,100 people and a harbour that still has a working fishing fleet.
Harbour Street's shops
The village centre runs around the west end of the inner harbour, with cafes, pubs and a run of independent shops and artisan stores along Harbour Street — among them a deli-style food shop selling local cheeses, and a gallery specialising in seascapes and coastal homeware. The old post office building, further along the street, now houses an organic skincare and candle business. Tarbert's biggest date in the calendar is its annual fair, held every year from the last Thursday in July.
What that leaves out
A harbour-front deli and a handful of galleries and gift shops cover a lot of what a visitor to Tarbert might want, but not a dedicated vegan or halal-friendly sweets range, or enough stock for a business or a party — that's not what a village this size, built around fishing and tourism, tends to carry.
Why "sweets near me" in Tarbert still points to a delivery
For anything beyond a harbour-front bag, ordering online and having it delivered is the steadier option, wherever around Loch Fyne you're based.
