The town has a quieter, more significant claim too: mathematician and codebreaker Alan Turing spent the final years of his life living in Wilmslow and died there in June 1954. He's buried at Woodford Cemetery near the town, and Wilmslow's connection to Turing is marked locally, including at Wilmslow High School, which he attended.
