The gummy base of a Tangfastics piece is built the same way as any other Haribo jelly sweet — glucose syrup, sugar, gelatine, set into shape. What makes Tangfastics distinct is applied afterwards: a dry dusting of sugar mixed with acid, most commonly citric or malic acid, coated onto the outside of the finished piece. The sourness lives entirely in that outer layer.
Why it hits hard and then disappears
Saliva dissolves the sour coating fast — within the first few seconds of chewing, in most cases. Once that layer is gone, you're left chewing a plain gummy with no more acid to deliver, which is why the intense sour hit at the start gives way to an ordinary chewy sweet by the time you're finishing the piece.
