Zappers: The Sour Sweet That Isn't a Swizzels Product

If you've been hunting for a Swizzels sweet called Zappers, it's worth clearing up first: that product doesn't appear to exist under the Swizzels name. The Zappers you'll find on UK wholesale listings are made by a different company entirely.

Who actually makes Zappers

Zed Candy Zappers is the product that turns up under this name in the UK trade - a mega-sour bubblegum sold as a 50g bag, typically at a 50p price-marked pack aimed at impulse and pocket-money sales. Swizzels has a long-running sour range of its own, but it's built around names like Squashies, Refreshers and Drumstick Squashies rather than anything called Zappers.

Why the mix-up happens

Confectionery brand names overlap and get conflated a lot, especially with novelty sour sweets aimed at the same shelf space - the same kind of mix-up that happens with Walkers Nonsuch and Walkers crisps, or Milky Way and Milkybar. Zed Candy and Swizzels are separate manufacturers competing in the same sour-sweet category, which is likely why searches for one sometimes assume the other.

What we stock instead

We don't currently carry a Zed Candy Zappers product. For sour sweets generally, we stock Warheads Extreme Sour Hard Candy and the wider Warheads range, plus Millions Squashies Japanese Sour Flavour Bag. See our sour sweets guide for the full line-up.
